Eclectic and quiet, with a rich mix of architectural styles, The Mesa is a luxurious neighborhood sequestered against the hillsides of South Palm Springs. Vast estates, many surrounded by privacy hedges and gates, harmonize with Mid-Century icons, Spanish villas and classic ranch houses. Past and current celebrity residents within The Mesa include Joseph Cotton, writer Zane Grey, songwriter Johnny Mercer, actors Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, Sonny Bono, musician Barry Manilow, Robert Wagner, Natalie Wood and Suzanne Somers.
Home to the Moorten Botanical Garden, The Mesa was originally created in the 1930s by Edmond Fulford, a successful Los Angeles businessman, who envisioned a quaint and private community with a single gated entrance. One of the original entry monuments is still standing and can be seen on West El Portal at South Palm Canyon Drive, and it is depicted on the neighborhood’s street signs.
